About my studio
My studio specializes in stylized, graphic representations of plants that inspire me and excite my creativity by their unique textures and patterns; I focus primarily on the bold silhouettes of succulents and the architectural layers of bromeliads. Every piece I create is a celebration of form, structure and organic design.
I blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics by merging linocut printing, screen printing and fluid mixed media techniques. This hybrid approach allows me to build rich, layered textures on both fine paper and sustainable textiles, ensuring no two prints are ever exactly alike.
Conscious creation is at the heart of my practice. I mix my own color palettes for every project and print exclusively with non-toxic, water-based inks that penetrate deep into the fibers, preserving the natural feel of my fabrics and the crisp finish of my prints.
From my hand carved linoleum blocks to the final pull of the squeegee, every step is intentional, sustainable and inspired by nature.
My story
My love of botanical inspired drawing and print work started early in my life. Whether it was walking through the English countryside as a child and exploring the hedgerows, or hiking through the Cape veld of South Africa as a young adult, where I was drawn to the botanical diversity and vibrant, unique colors and structures of the Cape’s flora.
Following completion of my Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture and History of Fine Art degree and post graduate Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts, from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, I worked as a freelance botanical illustrator for the prestigious South African National Biodiversity Institute at Kirstenbosch as well as being the Exhibition Designer at the South African Museum, Cape Town. I moved to California in 2000 with my botanist husband - settling first in Petaluma and then more recently in Riverside, where I connected with the striking flora that southern California has to offer.
My artworks feature in various botanical publications, including scientific journals published by the South African National Biodiversity Institute at Kirstenbosch. A collection of my seaweed illustrations has been deposited in the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.
I also enjoy sharing with children the joy of the exploration of art through the creative journey, through planning, designing and presenting art classes from Kindergarten to 6th grade.
